About

Run it. AI it.

AIthlete Labs is run by a trail and ultra runner who designs AI systems for a living, testing what the technology really does for runners.

The story

Why AIthlete Labs exists

I've spent years running trails and ultras, and about as long building AI systems at work. Every month brings a new watch feature, app or AI coach that promises to make you faster, fitter or better rested.

Some of it is brilliant. Some of it gets in the way. Most reviews tell you about the features, not whether they helped on a cold, dark Tuesday when you had an hour before work.

AIthlete Labs is where I find out. I run with the tech, read the data and say what I found, including when it's mixed.

The aim is simple: understand AI as well as we can, and use it to build better outdoor humans, never to keep people inside staring at a screen.

What we stand for

Three principles

Honest

Every review covers where AI helps and where it hinders. A mixed verdict is still a verdict.

Human first

The tech serves the runner. My own voice stays in the videos because that's the human part.

Outdoors

If a tool doesn't get you outside more, or better, it hasn't done its job.

The name

Why aithlete?

It's an athlete with AI in the middle. The i is set in volt and stands upright, because the human stays at the centre of it.

Come along for the run.
